ST COLUMBA PRAYER PAGE |
| Welcome to the prayer letter for
St Columba Parish Church. The objectives of our church are to be; The purpose of the prayer letter is to provide information and encouragement to pray in support of these objectives. If you wonder why this is important the following are some verses from the Bible. (All quotes in the prayer letter are from the New International Version with page numbers relating to the Bibles available in the church pews). The verses below give us an insight into the importance of prayer in the Christian church in the early times after Christ's death and resurrection. "They all joined together constantly in prayer" Acts 1:14 (p1092). "They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer" Acts 2:42 (p1094). "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6 (p1181). The prayer letter is used to guide our prayers at the church prayer meetings. In addition, please use the prayer letter for your personal devotions & prayer. Prayer requests should be notified to me, Brian Morton. A form is available at the doors of the church for submitting prayer requests. Completed forms can be deposited in the box in the entrance vestibule, given to me at church on Sunday mornings or sent to me at 53 Neuk Crescent, Houston, PA6 7DR. Alternatively contact me by telephone (01505 613092) or email me with prayer requests. E-mail: btmorton@eggconnect.net

| Glasgow University Christian Union: | As many of you will be aware there is a severe problem in this country with Christian people being prevented from following lifestyles that are in keeping with Scripture. They are being prevented from preaching the gospel and living in accordance with its teaching. This is being felt very seriously in our universities where a number of University Senates and/or student unions/representative councils are preventing Christian Unions from holding events in university accommodation and also disaffiliating CUs from the student unions. There have been different catalysts in different places with the imposing of a statement of faith on the members of the executive committee of the CUs and the failure to hold "open and free" elections to the exec being the most frequently cited. Please pray for all those involved in CUs, for those on university senates and student representatives as well as for those in the student lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual organisations that have brought most of the complaints. Please pray that this issue will be solved quickly and that those who speak for the CUs and for what the gospel has to say on many issues will do so in a loving and appropriate way. For more information on this please see the UCCF website. | |

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no-one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." (Isaiah 40: 28 - 31, p725.) Be encouraged by this reminder of who our God is. |
